Hill House was easily one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. The space is absolutely gorgeous and designed down to the smallest detail. The views during the day are stunning and the evening night sky is packed with stars and milky way views. The location is secluded but still conveniently located off the main highway and a brief drive from the heart of Wanaka. I highly recommend staying at Hill House, you will not regret it.

We felt incredibly lucky to discover Chris' place as we were browsing, and we booked it at the very last minute, on the day of arrival. Chris was so great with communication and gracious to let us stay there at such short notice. We're so glad we did, and it was a highlight of our New Zealand trip for my friend Andy and I. The photos don't do it justice - both the house and the setting are spectacular. We originally thought we may drive into Wanaka each day, but in the end we loved the house so much that we did a big shop and just stayed there for 3 days. We got some great downtime and loved all the little details of the house. The Hill House was more than we could have have dreamed for. Having chosen it as the backdrop to celebrate our 5th Anniversary, my partner and I were blown away by the views, the comfort of the home, as well as the ease of use of all the amenities. We loved sitting by the fire with our glass of wine and were able to cook an amazing lamb roast dinner in the kitchen. Chris left all the proper instructions for us and made our stay uncomplicated and easy which is exactly what we needed. One of our all time best holiday experiences. Mountain retreat set up perfectly for rejuvenation and relaxation. The only bad thing is having to leave at the end of your visit. Chris was a great host, providing us with all the details we needed for our stay well in advance of our arrival, and being very responsive. We had a great stay at Hill House Queensberry and thoroughly enjoyed relaxing with the amazing views, as well as exploring some of the sights and towns within a reasonable drive (Mt Aspiring Park, Mt Cook Park, Wanaka, Queenstown, etc.). Hill House was perfectly comfortable for the cold weather, including ample firewood to supply the fireplace as well as space heaters and heating blankets for the bedrooms (though we found the fireplace was more than adequate in May). It also came well stocked with books, activity brochures, and DVDs for downtime, as well as other handy items such as binoculars. Kitchen was quite spacious, well-designed, and well-stocked for cooking in. We happily recommend this house for others considering a stay!

Our perfect five nights in The Otago will be the title of this review. Hill House is just as amazing as the photos depict and you'd need a month there to begin to tire of the ever-changing views from the various windows. Fortunately, we had good, breezy weather the first three days to admire the way the dappled sun hit the hills and valley floor from Wanaka right down to Cromwell. It is gobsmacking. The sunsets followed by bright, starry nights above complete with the kind of Milky Way we've never seen in the city, ended each day perfectly. Chris had made sure every need is attended to and his house is clean and modern and the shower alone is worth the price of admission (you'll see what I'm talking about). Truly one of the great getaways of our life.

The house is ideally situated, high on the hillside at Queensberry, located between Queenstown and Wanaka. The house provides total privacy with stunning views over the valley and the snow capped mountains in the distance behind Wanaka. The house is very well designed so that all the rooms have a superb view. A well equipped kitchen provides a focal point for the open planned dining and living area with the wood-burning stove the central piece. Lots of comfy seating and a large dining table provide lots of options for more formal (inside) or informal dining, sitting outside on the table/bench. All mod-cons are provided: TV, Internet, iPad so if you really want to connect with the rest of the world you can - we chose to just take in the views. The bathroom and bed rooms are well designed and modern with very good quality fixtures. It was great to be tucked up in bed looking at the stars. Lots of room to park the car. We really loved this house and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Had the most amazing stay, great views, very well equipped, you have thought of everything your guests might need! Will be recommending Hill House to our friends in Christchurch.

This is a special place. It has spectacular views over wonderful Central Otago country. Close to Wanaka and Cromwell yet you feel miles from anywhere. The house itself is wonderful, and everything is so well organised for your visit. The fire is a wonderful place to curl up in front of during winter days, playing Scrabble, reading, doing jigsaws or drinking wine. Great kitchen and best views from a shower that you're likely to get. Brilliant place.

Queensberry hill house is an amazing place to stay, the experience of living in the top of the mountain with uninterrupted view is unique and exclusive, not to mention the extreme comfortness inside the house itself. Our stay at Hill House was an amazingly memorable experience, the best space we could possibly imagine for a winter retreat. It had snowed on the mountains the day before we came so the views, which can be enjoyed in pretty much every room (including the shower!) were particularly spectacular. It was pretty cold outside, but with the wonderful fireplace and all the wood one could ever need, we were warm and comfortable. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, the info pack is comprehensive and Chris was great on the comms. The modern interior design is minimalist and tasteful yet welcoming at the same time. If you stay here, don't plan on spending too much time anywhere else...you won't want to leave, trust me. Would not hesitate for a second to recommend staying at Hill House. It's a beautiful space Chris and Brigid, thanks so much for having us.

We enjoyed our long weekend at Hill House very much. The house itself is peaceful, comfortable, chic in a comfortable way, well kitted-out. The view and surroundings are stunning. We had one cold, blustery day inside and enjoyed the fire and the quiet. The next day was sunny and we availed ourselves of a hike near Wanaka. The kitchen is superb-- have never cooked on an induction hob before. There are many basics and condiments available. Everything was in great order, and much thought has been put into making the stay pleasant and comfortable.

The Hill House is an amazing place to stay! From the moment we arrived, we knew it was special. We found ourselves frequently looking out at the stunning view as the light changed throughout the day and we made sure we spent time at the house to relax, unwind and appreciate the silence. The house itself has everything you need but it isn't cluttered. A well thought out manual is provided on arrival along with manuals for all the main appliances in the house. My partner and I like to cook and the kitchen is the best we have come across in our travels with everything we needed while the view from the kitchen meant washing up was no longer a chore. The house is in a great location, being a 20 minute drive to Wanaka. I think anyone who stays at the Hill House will enjoy their stay and walk away with wonderful memories of the place and it's beautiful location. We found it a special place and would love to return in the future.

This is a spectacular house in a spectacular location. Very clear instructions for a high tech house with every amenity imaginable. Lovely comfortable bed. Lots of info about things to do and see. The panoramic views from the walls of glass are very special and being only 20 mins from Wanaka is a real plus. Will happily return.

What should I say - AAAAMAZING!

The landscape is absolutely beautiful. The sky is so wide and open. Even on a cloudy day. The pictures change so fast that you can't keep your eyes off.

The really well designed Hill House is the icing on the top! Inside - it is warm, very neat and super comfortable. You have lovely views through every window in the house. The kitchen is fully equipped - it's easy to have a lovely dinner with a glass of wine from the local wineries.

The Hill House is the perfect place to clear your mind and recharge your batteries ;-)

It was even better than we had hoped - the magnificent views, the wood fire and everything in the house was just perfect. We kept commenting that it was exactly how we would have built and fitted it out ourselves. The only suggestion for improvement is that the current photos on the website don't do the house justice ! I will happily send some photos to you as we had some beautiful weather and clearly show the snow on the alps and everything in between. The Hill House is beyond stunning- so lovely, private, and peaceful that you could enjoy a gorgeous getaway almost without leaving the house. The unobstructed views are breathtaking from every corner (including the kitchen and the shower), and the rooms are filled with changing light from dawn to dusk. The spaces are clean, open and beautifully designed and the house is equipped with everything you need to be very comfortable - all the modern perks. The kitchen was a pleasure to use, obviously designed for and stocked by people who love to cook. We were delighted with the the location, close to Wanaka and Queenstown, but far enough from everything to feel pleasantly remote and very secluded. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a spacious, modern retreat, it really made our stay in Otago quite an exceptional experience.
